It is an enormous honour and a privilege to be given the opportunity to continue to serve in the Turnbull-Joyce Cabinet as Minister for Infrastructure and Transport.
I understand that delivering quality infrastructure can change people’s lives, and in many cases, it can save people’s lives.
I’m looking forward to working closely with my Ministerial colleagues to deliver the record infrastructure investment program that will create jobs, reduce congestion, boost productivity, support economic growth and improve safety on our roads.
From the Western Sydney Airport to the Melbourne-Brisbane Inland Rail, and from the Outback Way to the Monash Freeway: the Coalition Government has an ambitious infrastructure agenda with construction across the nation on a range of large and small projects. We are working to deliver the infrastructure our nation needs.
Infrastructure and Transport is a diverse portfolio with major significance to rural and regional communities throughout Australia.
As a member of The Nationals, I’m determined to ensure that a fair share of government funding is allocated to projects that will also deliver long term benefits for people outside our capital cities.
In addition to building infrastructure that our kids and grandkids will thank us for, the government will work to deliver reforms that improve productivity and efficiency in coastal shipping, aviation, road and rail transportation.
Reducing red tape to boost economic production, without compromising safety, will improve transport efficiency across all modes of transportation.
In particular, I will continue to consult with the General Aviation sector to address issues of concern which threaten the viability of this important industry.
On a personal level, my passion for road safety is well understood and I will continue to seek a national focus to reduce road trauma.
Too many Australians are killed and injured on our roads each year and it is a social and economic crisis which demands more attention from governments and the community.
Finally, I would like to thank the people of Gippsland who gave me an overwhelming vote of confidence at the recent election. It is an honour to serve this remarkable community.
Likewise, I would like to thank the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister for extending the invitation to continue in Cabinet and my hard working staff and loving family for supporting my decision to accept the offer.
