Local Issues

“Successful small businesses are critical to regional communities where in addition to providing goods or services and creating employment they are major supporters of local schools, community groups and sporting clubs.

“By Putting Locals First at every opportunity, we can support the businesses which support our region. It’s an investment in the future that will deliver long-term benefits.

“The alternative of shopping online or travelling to Melbourne to make purchases will cost jobs and undermine our region’s future prosperity.”

In addition to the marketing initiative, Mr Chester is also surveying the local business community to receive feedback on the impact of government policies.

“I’m asking local business owners to provide their ideas on ways to reduce red tape and allow businesses to prosper,” Mr Chester said.

“I will use their feedback to help develop Coalition policy in the lead up to the next federal election.

“But in the meantime, I will continue to promote the Putting Locals First message.

“With the impact of the carbon tax, on top of online competition and the high Australian dollar, it’s never been more important to support the local small business community.

“Local businesses have been providing jobs and supporting our communities for more than 100 years – we need to make sure that continues in the future.”
