The old asphalt is gone and all four courts at Traralgon’s Pax Hill Tennis Club now have a new high-performance surface. Thanks to $15,000 from the Federal Government’s #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Program matched by $15,000 of the club’s own funding, a no-interest loan from the Latrobe City Council and an $8000 rebate from Tennis Australia, the courts have been resurfaced with an acrylic “sportspave” surface. Member for Gippsland Darren Chester commended the volunteers and their families who have been fundraising for many years to make this project a reality.“This is the wonderful result of plenty of hard work by club members and other volunteers to upgrade an important community asset,” Mr Chester said. “The tennis club was established more than 50 years ago. I hope the upgraded facilities will attract more members and the club continues on strongly for many years to come.” To celebrate the completion of its new courts, the Pax Hill Tennis Club will roll out the welcome mat at its open day on Sunday February 26 from 11am to 2pm at Maskrey Reserve. Treasurer Barb Webb said the club was inviting the community to inspect its upgraded courts and join in a great range of family activities. “Come and join us for fun in the park. There’ll be plenty to do for the kids, including tennis-related activities, a free jumping castle, Koko the Clown and lots of yummy food to purchase,” she said. “The club has also replaced its fences and we have new net poles with winders that don’t protrude, so the whole facility is really looking great. “We’ve also secured a grant to modify our courts and clubrooms to ensure they are accessible by wheelchair. Our All Abilities program is due to begin again soon, so we’re really excited that we will be able to involve players who use wheelchairs.”
