Community leaders from across Gippsland have converged on Canberra to raise their priorities for the region with senior government ministers.

Committee for Gippsland and local government leaders met with Federal Member for Gippsland and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester today.

“The meetings in Canberra were an important opportunity for the One Gippsland delegation to raise the profile of local issues with government and opposition MPs,” Mr Chester said.

“I remain relentlessly positive about the future of Gippsland and it is encouraging to see so many local community leaders working together towards the same goal of growing our economy and creating more jobs.

“All parts of Gippsland rely heavily upon one another for economic and social reasons, which is why it’s important to have a unified voice explaining to all levels of government what is needed to keep our region growing.”

Mr Chester said the discussion with One Gippsland centred on the transition of the Latrobe Valley economy and major infrastructure projects for the region.

“I look forward to continue working with members of the One Gippsland delegation to secure our fair share of government resources for our region,” Mr Chester said.

The One Gippsland consortium comprises representatives of Committee for Gippsland, Regional Development Australia – Gippsland and the Gippsland Local Government Network (representing the six Gippsland shires).
