Churchill student Jemma Hall will find it a little bit easier to meet the cost of university study after being awarded a scholarship from The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester.
Jemma is one of three students across Victoria who successfully applied for the scholarship, which is designed to help reduce the barriers to country students pursuing higher education.
Mr Chester said he was very pleased to see a Gippsland student win one of the scholarships.
“The Nationals provide $5,000 per year across Victoria to assist students to off-set the cost of higher education,” Mr Chester said.
“Jemma successfully completed year 12 at Nagle College last year and has commenced studying a Bachelor of Arts at Monash Gippsland.
“She has had to relocate to Churchill to pursue her university dreams and the $1670 scholarship will provide some assistance.”
Jemma is intending to complete her degree and then enter the police force, following in the footsteps of both her father and mother.
She is particularly interested in crime prevention strategies to assist young people in the community.
“Jemma is a very impressive young lady who is committed to her study and wants to make a difference in her community.” Mr Chester said.
“I am confident that the scholarship is richly deserved and will provide a long term benefit to the Gippsland community.”
