$500,000 FOR BAIRNSDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE

August 6, 2009

The Federal Government has announced half a million dollars to renovate and extend the Community College East Gippsland.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said $500,000 had been announced from the Vocational and Education and Training program.

“The community college will build a new student toilet block, air-conditioning, carpet its training rooms and refurbish the training kitchen,” Mr Chester said.

“This will substantially increase the training capacity and help to ensure viability into the long term.”

Mr Chester said there would also be a stimulus to local business as the community college would utilise local building contractors.

“This is a great announcement for East Gippsland and is pleasing to see the college is putting locals first and supporting local jobs,” Mr Chester said.

“Community College East Gippsland is a not-for-profit organisation which has been serving the local community since 1978.

“The community college has a vital role in helping mature students achieve their VCE or to further their skills as a stepping stone to employment.

“The college also provides nationally recognised accredited training and non-accredited leisure and lifestyle courses

“Community college is a great option for people who want to extend themselves without the long-term commitment of formal studies.”
