NO JAB MEANS NO PLAY AND NO PAY

Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed Federal Government moves to encourage childhood vaccination by linking welfare payments.

From January 1, 2016, child care and family payments will be denied to parents who don’t vaccinate their children.   While exemptions on legitimate medical or religious grounds will continue, ‘conscientious objection’ will be removed as an exemption category.

Mr Chester said the new policy reinforced the importance of immunisation and protecting public health.

GOVERNMENTS MEETING THE CHALLENGE OF ICE HEAD ON

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester says a new drug taskforce aimed at combating the scourge of ice will bring together all sections of the community to find practical solutions.

The Federal Government announced today it would establish a National Ice Taskforce, led by former Victoria Police Commissioner Ken Lay, to assist in creating a National Ice Action Strategy.

Mr Chester has met with local police and court officials, and also spoken in the Federal Parliament, about ice “spreading like a cancer” in some sections of the community and the need for extra prevention and awareness measures.
