CHESTER RETURNED IN GIPPSLAND
August 22, 2010
The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester says he will continue to put the needs of Gippslanders first and fight for a fair share of government funding, after being returned during yesterday’s Federal election.
Mr Chester recorded a primary vote of 54% to retain the seat – the first time Gippsland has been won on primaries since 1996. The national result remains uncertain with the final decision likely to rest on postal votes in several seats which are too close to call.
“Winning with an increased primary vote is a pleasing result but the work starts again today,” Mr Chester said.

August 14, 2010
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester says all MPs should live in the seat they seek to represent and has described the Greens decision to nominate a candidate from Melbourne as “an insult to Gippslanders”.
Greens candidate Michael Bond has been rarely sighted during the Gippsland campaign and was the only candidate who failed to attend the public debate in Bairnsdale this week.
Speaking after the debate, Mr Chester said the preference deal between Labor and the Greens was a threat to jobs in traditional industries across Gippsland and the Latrobe Valley including timber production, power generation, paper manufacturing and fishing.
