MINISTER NEEDS TO BACK UP RHETORIC WITH FUNDING |

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed the Federal Transport Minister’s new found interest in the Princes Highway throughout Gippsland and called on Anthony Albanese to visit the region before funding future road upgrades.
Mr Chester responded to a media statement by the Minister this week that claimed the Federal Opposition had “abandoned its promise to upgrade the Princes Highway east of Sale”.
“I know it’s a long way from Mr Albanese’s Sydney electorate to Gippsland but he doesn’t seem to know which section of the highway he is talking about,” Mr Chester said.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has spoken in Federal Parliament in support of State Candidate for Gippsland East Tim Bull.
Mr Chester said Tim Bull had been a passionate advocate for regional issues and would be an outstanding Member of Parliament.
“Tim successfully led a community campaign to establish the East Gippsland Specialist School in the Bairnsdale area,” Mr Chester told Parliament.

PETITION LAUNCHED FOR PRINCES HIGHWAY FUNDING |

The Nationals are aiming to build community pressure in the fight to reduce the road toll on the Princes Highway east of Sale.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester and candidate for Gippsland East Tim Bull are working in partnership to highlight the need for increased government funding to improve safety on the notorious stretch of road.
They have launched a petition which calls on the Federal Government to make the road eligible for Federal funding in a bid to provide more overtaking lanes, improved road shoulders and more rest areas.

CHESTER ENCOURAGES LOCALS TO ATTEND INFORMATION SESSIONS |

Local residents can see final plans of the Princes Highway duplication and have their questions answered about the work scheduled at information sessions being held next week.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has encouraged locals to attend the VicRoads information sessions to get the full details of the works and how they will impact on road users.

PRINCES HIGHWAY DUPLICATION ALMOST UNDERWAY |

Works will soon commence on the Princes Highway duplication between Traralgon and Sale after the awarding of a contract for the first stage of construction, the Traralgon East Section, between Traralgon-Maffra Road and Stammers Road.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed the announcement of the commencement of the first stage of the duplication, describing it as an essential development for the region.
Mr Chester said the project should improve safety along the stretch of highway for Gippslanders, transport operators and the increasing number of people visiting the area.
